Mt Langi Shiraz Tasting & Visit
Mt Langi Ghiran is one of Victoria's most consistent producers of high quality shiraz, especially under the watchful eye of Dan Buckle. Make no mistake, Dan is certain to become one of the superstars of the Australia Wine Industry. So when we got an invite to look at some wines from the 90's made by Trevor Mast, and the wines made by Dan from 2004 to 2008, we were easily convinced it was a good idea to make the effort and get on up to the Grampians (extra incentive was dangled via dinner at the highly acclaimed Royal Mail in Dunkeld).
The highlights from the 90s bracket were the 94 and 98, which both displayed great life, energy, concentration and persistence. The 95, 96 and 97 all had suffered a little with time and a nasty little critter (AKA Brett).
The whole bracket from 2004 to 2008 was an exercise in consistency, without forgoing brilliance. Consistent and attentive winemaking produced 5 wines of Gold Medal quality, each with a unique personality derived from the character of the vintage.
The 2007 is about to be released, and while thoroughly delicious now, a further 3-5 years will have this wine absolutely humming.
So the question is; when was the last time you bought a Mt Langi Ghiran wine? If it's been a while, there has never been a better time to reacquaint yourself with this Victorian Die Hard.
